2009 Whirlbox Design
In 2006 Tulikivi introduced a new line of fireplaces with a more efficient and cleaner burning firebox. There were two major changes from earlier Tulikivi firebox designs. The first was to line the firebox with Cordierite firebox panels that keep the temperature of the firebox higher during combustion than do the soapstone bricks previously used. The second change was to reduce the amount of air coming from underneath the fire through the grate, and introduce additional air slots on the sides and back of the firebox to increase the amount of combustion air at the top of the fire. In 2009 this advanced fire box design was tested for use in earlier models that had previously used the soapstone fireboxes. In 2010 most of these older model have been upgraded to the new firebox.
